about

Recorded in 1997, F2RC's 3rd cassette release saw a run of 150 copies total. It's a flux of the then most prominent influences of it's creator- noise, industrial, punk, hip-hop, and movie soundtracks, recorded on a 4-track with pawn shop guitars, cheesy keyboards, a beat up Onkyo turntable, and various electromagnetic noise producing household implements. This remastering is from the band's last known copy (the original master is lost).

The subtitle of the album comes from a bit of urban folklore. In the suburbs surrounding Detroit, there was a derelict hospital, community center, and several other buildings the F2RC and friends would explore from time to time. The place was supposed to be off limits to everyone and was behind barbed wire fences, serving only to make wayward kids want to explore it even more. Since it had tunnels connecting the buildings, the kids referred to the place as "The Northville Tunnels". Rumors about the place abounded: it was said that the mob and gangs dumped bodies there, that the police would shoot you on site if you were caught there, that it used to be an orphanage where kids had been experimented on by scientists. Was any of it true? I don't know.

"Stalking The Tunnels Of Children's Dreams" was spray-painted on the wall at what the kids called echo point, a location in the Northville tunnels which produced the most interesting echos if you yelled or banged on metal or whatever. The plan was to sneak in there and record, but increased police presence around the tunnels made that impractical. So absent that, the feel of that place was meant to be conveyed in the music, it was the inspiration.

The dark, murky sounds and nonrhythmic beats paint a picture of the 90's bedroom noise scene, an obscure moment; like an insect trapped in amber, to be found and used to clone monsters thousands of years in the future (hopefully).

about

F2RC Detroit, Michigan

F2RC is an experimental project which meanders between harsh noisescapes to primitive techno to sloppy cybergrind to old school hip-hop... and at times sounds like all those things shoved into a malfunctioning industrial shredder at once. Made in Detroit. ... more
